The Palm Springs Arts Museum is significantly expanding its contemporary-art offerings thanks to a collection gift of 116 artworks from Donna and Cargill MacMillan.

PALM SPRINGS, Calif.—A sprawling, international collection of 116 pieces by 66 artists, with a particular emphasis on sculpture, has been donated to the Palm Springs Art Museum, significantly enhancing its contemporary-art offerings.

Assembled over 20 years, the collection gift from Donna and Cargill MacMillan features works by such major figures as Robert Rauschenberg, Andy Warhol, and Roy Lichtenstein, as well as Jennifer Steinkamp, Pae White, and Julie Mehretu, who have gained international recognition in recent decades. Sculptors include Anish Kapoor, Louise Bourgeois, Donald Judd, Mona Hatoum, and Gary Hume. In all, the collection reflects Expressionist, Minimalist, and Pop styles in a variety of media. To introduce the public to the collection, a four-part exhibition starting September 5 will present more than 75 sculptures, paintings, and design objects. The show’s final part, featuring works on paper, will open November 14.
