NEW YORK—When Performance Space 122 (PS122) hosted an event last week based on Kanye West's new album 808s & Heartbreak, it probably didn't expect the famed rapper to attend. But, in fact, West did show up for a performance of "Why Won't You Let Me Be Great!!!" for which a host of artists choreographed and created pieces inspired by songs from the new album.

The highlight may have been when performance artist Ann Liv Young took the stage (responding to track five, "Love Lockdown"). Young, completely naked, proceeded to complain that the album was not West's best work, at some point rubbing barbecued pork onto her genitals and then eating it. But you've go to hand it to West, who is no stranger to performance art (last album he worked with Vanessa Beecroft on a performance featuring naked models in afro wigs): Apparently, he didn't even flinch at the sight.
