LONDON—After 30 years, British architect Will Alsop is leaving the practice that bears his name to devote more time to painting and teaching.

The Stirling Prize winner will continue to act as a part-time consultant to Alsop Architects’ parent company, Archial (with which he's been known to have his, well, differences), while turning over day-to-day management of the Battersea-based practice, which he founded, to others. “I will still be associated with their projects and the promotion of new work,” he says. Along with teaching at Ryerson University in Toronto and the Technical University in Vienna, he plans to spend at least two days a week on his art, noting, “It’s a serious inquiry into painting.”
