Bruce Nauman
PASADENA, Calif.—Residents here (and lucky visitors) will have a chance, on Sept. 12, to see a
Bruce Nauman artwork in action. The artist, who earlier this summer
won a Golden Lion at this year's
Venice Biennale, is planning a project called
Untitled (Leave the Land Alone), 1969/2009, for which the words "Leave the Land Alone" will be written in the sky over the city. The project coincides with a Nauman exhibition at Pasadena's
Armory Center for the Arts, "Installations Inside/Out," which is on view Sept. 20 to Dec. 31, and is the artist's first solo institutional project in the L.A. area since 1994, according to the center. It's not clear yet, though, whether viewers will be seeing Nauman himself in action: It has not been announced whether he will be in the plane doing the skywriting.
