Eli Broad has put an end to the unusual silence about his proposed Beverly Hills museum. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times earlier this week, the billionaire collector and philanthropist revealed that there are some complications with his first-choice location, which would place the museum at the corner of Santa Monica and Wilshire Boulevards — a high-traffic area that has benefits like lots of tourists but downfalls like a lack of parking.
Broad has confirmed that his preferred location, which would house much of his large collection of artworks that he last year decided to retain rather than donate to the city’s Museum of Contemporary Art, is not a done deal. He has named Santa Monica, further toward the coast, as his second choice for the museum’s locale.
