Prince Charles Strikes Again

Architect Jean Nouvel had been commissioned by the firm, Land Securities, to design the £500 million ($817 million) One New Change office and shopping complex, but in a 2005 letter Charles complained about the choice, saying he didn’t want a modernist, says Mike Hussey, then the London director of Land Securities. Charles hadn’t seen the project’s design either, according to Hussey, but allegedy wrote that the plan should "allow St. Paul's to shine bright." Hussey decided the prince's suggestion that the firm meet with his own architects was “not appropriate” and declined the offer, he says.
