LIVERPOOL—A U.K. exhibition will display new works by abstract artist
Bridget Riley, as well as seminal paintings from the 1960s and a number of works on paper that have never left the artist’s studio until now. The show is the first in a new series called “Flashback,” consisting of exhibitions organized by the
Hayward Gallery in London that will be largely drawn from the
Arts Council collection and will tour museums in England. Riley will be the opening artist, with her first stop at the
Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool. Her exhibit, which travels through December 2010, will include the 1962 piece
Movement in Squares, which many consider her breakthrough, as well as more recent works. The next artist in the series will be sculptor
Anish Kapoor.
