American Tastes

LAMBERTVILLE, New Jersey—The small Delaware River town of Lambertville is an ideal venue for antiquing. This fall, collectors will have an added incentive to make the trip: On September 25 and 26, Rago Arts is holding auctions devoted to the Arts & Crafts movement, which peaked around the turn of the 20th century. Day one focuses on some 500 lots of pottery produced in Zanesville, Ohio. "The state had great clay deposits, so there was lots of raw material for the industry," explains auction house owner David Rago. Among the standouts is a one-off Della Robbia covered jar, pictured, with enamel blooming vines designed by Frederick Hurton Rhead for Roseville (est. $4,500-6,500). Day two offers 400-odd lots of furniture, rugs, pottery, woodblock prints and metalwork, including a copper lamp base by Joseph Heinrichs (est. $1,000-1,500).
