Edinburgh’s famed Scotsman steps, which sit atop Waverly Station, will soon be kept safe from vandalism not by the police or the city council, but by a project commissioned by the Edinburgh Arts Festival.
Conceptual artist Martin Creed has been given the steps to use in an installation to be shown at next year's festival, along with another artwork by Richard Wright, who will create his piece across town at the twin stairwells at the Dean Gallery. Representatives for the Fruitmarket Gallery, which is overseeing Creed’s commission, say that the installation will run along the entirety of the steps.
