Massive Crowds Visit Bristol City Museum as Banksy Show Closes

Published: August 31, 2009
BRISTOL, England—British graffiti artist Banksy, long one of the most-watched figures in international street art, can now claim credit for a legitimate museum blockbuster. Officials at the Bristol City Museum announced today that over 300,000 people have seen his exhibition there since it opened 12 weeks ago. Admission to the exhibit is free, though officials also announced that visitors have donated more than £45,000 to the museum over the course of its run.

Those hoping to visit the show as it closed today were met with queues that lasted for hours. Once they made it inside, they would see 100 works, including animatronic chicken nuggets, a burned-out ice cream truck, and the artist’s trademark riot police officer. Bansky charged the Bristol City Museum £1 for the show.
