Directors Speak Out on Saving LACMA’s Film Series

It all started two weeks ago, when Martin Scorsese wrote an open letter to LACMA and its director, Michael Govan, imploring him to reassess his decision to cancel the weekend film series. Today, the Los Angeles Times offers the opinions of many other film directors, all of whom agree that eliminating the program would be a disservice to film’s capital city and to movie lovers alike. Commentary ranged from the practical — “I don't think it's unexpected, but it's the exact opposite of what needs to happen,” said Two Lovers director James Gray — to the more straightforward.
