Westminster Palace Angel Getting a New Head
Published: September 15, 2009
LONDON—
More than 60 years after it fell victim to a World War II bombing raid, an angel sculpture at the Palace of Westminster is getting a new head. City & Guilds of London Art School graduate student Kevin McKeon won a competition to design a replacement head for the piece, which was damaged in 1941 during a German air attack that destroyed part of Westminster’s Victoria Tower, where it was originally housed.
McKeon’s sculpture is expected to be finished next year, after which it will be affixed to the angel, who will then be moved back to Victoria Tower. Read more at the Art Newspaper. |
