German painter Sigmar Polke didn’t notice it at first, but one of his paintings was stolen — not from a museum or gallery but from his own studio.
The missing work, Untitled—Oil on Drape (1969), has never been exhibited, according to the Süddeutsche Zeitung. A Düsseldorf art shipper was offered the work at a low price and contacted Polke, who then discovered it was missing. Police say the painting could have been stolen only by someone who had access to the studio.
