Anish Kapoor, "White Sand, Red Millet, Many Flowers" (1982)
This major exhibition covers all periods of the Los Angeles-based artist’s work, from his early days as a pioneer of Conceptualism to the present. Included is one of his many gems, I Will Not Make Any More Boring Art, 1971, a video in which Baldessari writes the title sentence repeatedly. "Anish Kapoor," Royal Academy, September 26 - December 11. This highly anticipated show spans the career of the British sculptor, from early works such as White Sand, Red Millet, Many Flowers, 1982, to a cannon that shoots wax against the walls, on view here for the first time. "Pop Life: Art in a Material World," Tate Modern, October 1 - January 17, 2010. Taking a look at artists who treat their output as products and their personas as brands, this exhibition includes work by Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons and Andy Warhol, plus a new commission by Takashi Murakami. "In Museums" originally appeared in the October 2009 issue of Art+Auction. For a complete list of articles from this issue available on ARTINFO, see Art+Auction's October 2009 Table of Contents.
