The Albright Knox will close its Collectors Gallery at the end of October.

BUFFALO, N.Y.—The Albright-Knox Art Museum has announced that in order to pull through today’s difficult economy, it will close its Collectors Gallery, which has been a part of the museum since 1933 and is known for showing the work of local artists. The volunteer-run gallery is slated to close for good at the end of October. The museum has been stretched tight as of late, and has previously taken other cost-saving measures, including staff furloughs and increasing ticket prices.

Museum director Louis Grachos said that while the decision was a difficult one, he is not worried for the artists who had shown in the space, as about 15 galleries specializing in regional art have popped up in the area in recent years. However, he did add that he remains hopeful that additional grant money will come though, providing the possibility of saving the Collectors Gallery after all.
