L.A.’s Blum & Poe Unveils Larger Space

Published: October 1, 2009
LOS ANGELES—Blum & Poe on South La Cienega Boulevard has moved across the street to much bigger quarters: a 21,000-square-foot complex with multiple galleries to showcase contemporary art.

The gallery’s inaugural exhibition this week will feature works by an international roster of artists, including Chiho Aoshima and Yoshitomo Nara of Tokyo; Nigel Cooke of London; Florian Maier-Aichen of Cologne, Germany; and Sharon Lockhart and Sam Durant of Los Angeles. Escher GuneWardena Architecture, the Los Angeles firm that converted a brick warehouse into Blum & Poe's first, 5,000-square-foot gallery on La Cienega, has also designed the new space. Since Tim Blum and Jeff Poe first came to the boulevard six years ago, there’s been a proliferation of contemporary-art galleries in and around Culver City.
