Important Books and Manuscripts 235 lots sold for $212,210 CHICAGO—Top lot: On December 18, 1932, legendary bank robber John Dillinger wrote to his niece, Mary Hancock, from a jail cell in Indiana expressing his desire to be with his family at Christmas. Framed with a photo of him and a wanted poster, this letter raked in $21,600, crushing its high estimate of $6,000.
