Jackson Pollock's "Untitled (Green Silver)" (ca. 1949) is among the works that will go on display at the Emirates Palace next month.

Next month, Abu Dhabi will herald the eventual opening of the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi with an exhibition of works from the collection of the New York museum at the Middle Eastern country's Emirates Palace.

"The Guggenheim: The Making of a Museum" will include 50 paintings that chart the history of the museum from 1929, when Solomon R. Guggenheim began to collect modern art, to 1959. Among the works to be displayed are Paul Cezanne’s Bend in the Road Through the Forest (1873–75), Willem de Kooning’s Composition (1955), Vasily Kandinsky’s Decisive Rose (1932), Paul Klee’s New Harmony (1936), Piet Mondrian’s Composition 8 (1914), Robert Motherwell’s Elegy to the Spanish Republic, No. 110 (1971), and Jackson Pollock’s Untitled (Green Silver) (ca. 1949).

The Guggenheim Abu Dhabi is scheduled to open in a Frank Gehry–designed building in 2013 as part of Abu Dhabi's Saadiyat Island Cultural District. "The Guggenheim: The Making of a Museum" runs Nov. 17–Feb. 4, 2010.
