Blum & Poe Times Four

LOS ANGELES—“We like L.A.,” Tim Blum recently told the Los Angeles Times, explaining why he and his business partner Jeff Poe decided to open a larger version of their Blum & Poe gallery in the city, instead of expanding to New York or Berlin. The turnout at Saturday night’s opening of that new space suggests that L.A. loves them back.

Artists, curators, writers, actors, and other Hollywood glitterati visited the 21,000 square foot gallery in Culver City, and surveyed the work on display, which featured contributions from the gallery’s roster, which includes Yoshitomo Nara, Takashi Murakami, Keith Tyson, and Sam Durant.

Frank Escher and Ravi GuneWardena, the architects behind the project, were also present, chatting and mingling in the mammoth gallery — quadruple the size of the old Blum & Poe gallery, which opened six years ago — alongside a cast that included actor Jack Black, curator Andrew Beradini, artist Zoe Crosher, and Jullian Hoeber, whom Blum & Poe represents.
