Disability Arts Fund to Launch in Time for 2012 Games

Published: October 8, 2009
LONDON—England’s Cultural Olympiad will soon launch Unlimited, a disability arts program that aims to bring the work of disabled artists into the mainstream, giving them the same recognition as others in the creative industry. Timed for the run up to the 2012 Olympic Games to be held in London, Unlimited will provide £3 million ($4,820,000) in funding, half of which will be used to finance artists’ work, the other half of which will be dedicated to developing and training artists. Interested parties can apply for grants totaling either £25,000 ($40,000) or £50,000 ($80,000).

Unlimited’s funding came in part from the Olympic Lottery Distributor, with the remainder being provided by the arts councils of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, as well as the British Council. The final deadline for submissions is April 18, 2011.
