The Polaroid camera is being revived thanks to Chinese company Summit Global.

Polaroid and its up-in-arms fans have found a savior: Chinese company Summit Global will soon take over the brand and re-release the iconic instant-film cameras, which will keep their original name.

Film housed within the last of the Polaroids, made just before the company’s collapse two years ago, expired last week, rendering the cameras useless. But loud protests from fans all over the world, coupled with lucrative eBay stores popping up online, generated interest within the business world. Summit Global will now produce the classic Polaroid One and will also develop a digital version. Netherlands-based Impossible Project will create the traditional instant film.

The new Polaroid cameras should be available by mid-2010.
