FIAC Lures Iconic (and Expensive) Works to Paris
Published: October 20, 2009
Hoping to attract higher-end galleries and a wealthier crowd, the organizers have created a section called “The Modern Project,” which includes large, ornate booths to galleries willing to bring museum-quality pieces to the fair. Perhaps the best part of the deal is that FIAC administrators have found sponsors to subsidize the booths, which will go for one-tenth of their typical costs. The 10 galleries that have signed up to fill the booths are Gagosian, PaceWildenstein, Acquavella, L&M Arts, Richard Gray, Thomas Ammann, Beyeler, Louis Carre, Jan Krugier, and Malingue. Some of the works they plan to offer include a 1963 Andy Warhol “Disaster” painting and Bacon’s Portrait of George Dyer Talking, priced around $40 million. |
