A Paper Ball

NEW YORK—The Museum of Art and Design celebrated its first anniversary in its redesigned home at 2 Columbus Circle on Wednesday night with a gala dance party. Dubbed “The Paperball” — in a reference to the museum’s latest exhibition, the ebullient "Slash: Paper Under the Knife" — the event inspired festive clothing choices from many of the uptown socialites, downtown artists, and other assorted luminaries in attendance.

Actress Rose McGowan was seen carrying roses with black, white, and red paper petals, while übersocialite Fabiola Beracasa adorned her headband and shoulders with blue, white, and red-streaked flowers. Beracasa’s guest, Jason Beckman, had affixed a handful of greeting cards to his patterned jacket, and spun in place to show off the adornments.

Other sartorial decisions seemed impervious to the evening’s theme. Leigh Lezark (of Misshapes fame) was clad in her characteristic black, which globe-trotting artist Terence Koh also favored, looking comfortable and tranquil in a long quilted jacket. Koh also appeared to have shaved his eyebrows, a look he sported for a stretch earlier this summer. “I was reading a lot about Buddhism,” he told the Times back then. “Thai monks shave off their eyebrows.”

Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Marc Jacobs’s husband Lorenzo Martone, and artists Agathe Snow and Rita Ackermann were also seen dancing the night away, enjoying jams provided by club impresario Paul Sevigny. Who knew that paper could inspire such festivities?
