Andy Warhol's portrait of Richard L. Weisman, which was among the works reported stolen from the collector's home.
Earlier this month, Weisman canceled his $25 million insurance claim on the works, a move an LAPD detective describes as “curious.” The detective also noted that Weisman has stopped cooperating with the investigation. In an interview earlier this week, Weisman declared, “Maybe if they would do their job… and spent some time looking for the art instead of being accusatory of the person who had it stolen, they might actually find it.” He went on to say that his lawyer had urged him not to speak further with the police. As for the insurance policy cancellation, Weisman says he didn’t want to subject his family to the scrutiny of investigators. “It's really no one's business — my phone records, my ex-wife's, my son's. I don't want to put them through all that,” he said. “Money isn't everything.” |
