NEW YORK—With the seasons changing, you may find yourself looking through your closet and wondering what exactly you were thinking when you bought that grape-juice-purple jumper last year.

Well, you may not want it anymore, but multidisciplinary artist MK Guth, who was featured in last year's Whitney Biennial, does. From Nov. 10 to Dec. 18, the Portland, Oregon–based artist will be collecting cast-off clothing, linens, rags, and other fabric items in a storefront in downtown New York, then taking them apart and weaving them into ropes and objects.

According to Guth, "This Fable Is Intended For You: A Work-Energy Principle by MK Guth," as the project is called, "captures the rhythm of making in New York City, a place where energy is constantly being converted into something new – whether it be a PowerPoint presentation or a meal or a sculpture.” Passersby will be able to interact with Guth as she works with the materials they donate.

The project is part of the Public Theater’s annual Under the Radar Festival, which spotlights emerging to established international artists and takes place from Jan. 6–14, 2010. An exhibition of Guth's final products will take place Jan. 6–24 at the World Financial Center; related performances will take place in the center's Winter Garden Jan. 9–12.
