Fine Art 169 lots sold for $1,384,613 CHICAGO—Top lot: In a sale flush with big names like Grosz, Motherwell and Rauschenberg, the high earner was a well-respected but relatively obscure American painter, Marvin Cone. Cone’s Untitled, 1945, bought for $156,400, depicts the serene landscape of rural Iowa, where he often vacationed with his friend Horace Hedges, to whom he gave the oil as a gift and who passed it on to his family. "In Brief: Leslie Hindman" originally appeared in the November 2009 issue of Art+Auction.
