Ambrosius Bosschaert the Elder, "Bouquet of Flowers in a Vase"

Sept. 18
Old Master Paintings
55 lots sold for SF2,584,580 ($2,502,020)

ZURICH—Top lot: Though small (14 by 10 inches), Ambrosius Bosschaert the Elder’s Bouquet of Flowers in a Vase played a large role in this auction. Its SF1,170,000 ($1,132,639) price accounted for nearly half the sale’s total take. The Old Master, who was known for his scientifically accurate still lifes rendered on copper, wasn’t the only Low Country artist that did well in Zurich. A landscape by Roelant Savery and a scene of bowlers in front of a tavern by David Teniers the Younger also brought sizable sums.
