LOS ANGELES—Flamboyant Italian artist Francesco Vezzoli is known for his lavish projects — creating a movie trailer for a movie that didn't exist — and his obsession with celebrities — casting actresses Michelle Williams and Natalie Portman in a commercial for his perfume Greed, which also didn't exist. Now, he's applying his artist prowess to a project that most certainly does exist, but is no less lavish: the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles's 30th Anniversary Gala on Nov. 14.

Over dinner, guests will be treated to the first and only performance of Vezzoli's work Ballet Russes Italian Style (The Shortest Musical You Will Never See Again), featuring pop star Lady Gaga, who will premiere a new ballad, "Speechless," as well as dancers from the Bolshoi Ballet. The production will feature set and costume design by leading designers and is sponsored by Larry Gagosian and Dasha Zhukova's Garage Center for Contemporary Culture, Moscow.

On hand to enjoy the festivities will be such artists included in the museum's collection as Chris Burden, Mark Grotjahn, Mike Kelley, Jeff Koons, Barbara Kruger, Ed Moses, Laura Owens, Nancy Rubins, and Ed Ruscha. Guests will also be treated to a preview of "Collection: MOCA's First Thirty Years," an exhibition of 500 works that is the largest, long-term installation of the museum's permanent collection to date. It opens to the public on Nov. 15, 2009
