The event also featured a book signing with Gail Buckland, the curator behind the event, and a special DJ, photographer Josh Cheuse, who is featured in the show. Cheuse spun classic records from the last 50 years, juxtaposing legendary sounds with some more contemporary hits. “Who Shot Rock & Roll” features work by many of the scene’s most famous photographers, though surprises abound both in the cameramen and women selected and their choice of subjects. The Rolling Stones make an appearance via a Michael Putland photograph, but so do LL Cool J in a 1992 photograph work by Albert Watson and Amy Winehouse courtesy of Max Vadukul’s camera. The exhibition is, in short, one of the rare shows that viewers of all ages and interests can love. Not so different, one might say, from a concert of perfect, danceable pop from Debbie Harry and her gang. |
