Art Collection Valued at $2.1M Missing from French Villa

A collection of about 30 artworks valued atabout €1 million ($2.1 million) total, including paintings by PabloPicasso and Henri Rousseau, has been stolen from a private villa inthe south of France, police said.
The theft in the Provencal village of La Cadiere d'Azur was discovered by a caretaker onThursday, a day after a painting by Edgar Degas was stolen from a Marseille museum, where it was on loan from the Museed'Orsay in Paris. Authorities didnot indicate any connection between the two thefts in southern France.
The owner of the villa was on vacation in Sweden when the theft took place, and has since returned to France, police said.
The theft of Degas’s Les Choristes remains under investigation.
