David Malek's "Yellow Chevron Bache" (2010) will be on view at Cerruti's Paris headquarters through May 31.

PARIS—Operating on the premise that the right accessory can overcome any eyesore, French fashion house Cerruti has commissioned artist David Malek to create a site-specific vinyl painting to cover up construction at its flagship Paris store. Measuring 23 feet high by 102 feet wide, the eye-grabbing abstract work draping the entirety of the store’s façade in an iridescent sheath is composed of 40 different shades of yellow and metallic silver.

The project, curated by Laurence Dreyfus, is the second collaboration between Cerruti and the 32-year-old, Brooklyn-based Malek, who was also commissioned to paint a wall mural in a temporary storefront last year. To create the vinyl work, Malek — who was included in Bob Nickas's influential recent book Painting Abstraction: New Elements in Abstract Painting and two resulting exhibitions, in Berlin and New York — began with a modest-sized canvas and then used a computer to enlarge the image. The finish product, titled Yellow Chevron Bâche, will be on view at 3 Place de la Madeleine through May 31.
