"Oh, it’s a drag I know. There’s only one place to go," growls Joe Bradley, visual artist and Cheeseburger front man, over jangly electric guitars in what is probably the Brooklyn-based band’s best known gig: the theme song for the cult cartoon show Superjail, on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim. This month, from the 12th through the 21st, that "one place" is Austin, Texas, for the South by Southwest festival, now in its 24th year. Bradley, Luke Crotty, Eric Dufresne, Christian Grody, and Christy Caracas will be among nearly 500 independent bands from around the world performing at the event, which also has a film program featuring independent movies and moviemakers, as well as an interactive media component, in which entrepreneurs share ideas about the best Web sites, video games, and start-up opportunities in the exponentially expanding area of digital and other new technologies.
