With the young New Yorkers firmly accounted for, it’s time to turn our attention out west, to Los Angeles, the city that critic Peter Schjeldahl once described as “a place converging on a future that never quite arrives.” At the Biennial this year, its artists have made a strong showing. Nine are detailed below. Michael Asher and Charles Ray supporters, no need to worry — they'll be detailed in an upcoming section of the preview.

Thank you to the Whitney Museum of American Art for its assistance in compiling this information.

Burst onto the map during Art Basel Miami Beach 2009, where his work was prominently featured at Michael Werner's booth, while also receiving pride of place at the entrance of the Rubell Family Collection's "Beg, Borrow, and Steal" show.

Kerry Tribe
Born: 1973 in Boston
Resides in: Los Angeles and Berlin
