In case the Royal Institute of British Architects release of the six buildings on the shortlist for its Stiring Prize was not exciting enough, British bookie William Hill has released betting odds for those hoping to liven up the competition by wagering some pounds sterling. According to William Hill, Zaha Hadids MAXXI, National Museum of XXI Century Arts, in Rome, is the clear favorite, marked with an even (1/1) chance of winning.
The five remaining buildings competing for the £20,000 ($31,000), 15-year-old prize that goes to the best new European building designed or built in the U.K. are as follows:
Christ's College School, Guildford, by DSDHA (Odds: 6/1)
Bateman's Row, London, by Theis and Khan (Odds: 7/1)
The jury picking the winner is comprised of RIBA president Ruth Reed; architects Ivan Harbour, Rogers Stirk Harbour, Edward Jones, and Dixon Jones; historian Lisa Jardine; and broadcaster Mark Lawson. Anyone hoping to gather inside information from jury members in the hope of winning their wager should be advised that the winner will not be picked until October 2, the same day that the Stirling winner is announced.
