The museums press release indicates that it has acquired nearly 2,600 drawings by more than 640 artists, which represent the entire group of drawings assembled by Judith Rothschild Foundation head Harvey Shipley-Miller, and not just a portion thereof. The collection, which Miller has valued at around $75 million, includes works by established artists such as Jasper Johns, Ellsworth Kelly, Joseph Beuys, Philip Guston, Ray Johnson, Anish Kapoor, Brice Marden and Franz West, as well as works by many young and emerging artists. A number of works are by artists new to MoMAs collection, such as Robert Bechtle, Robert Crumb, Isa Genzken, Jess, Imi Knoebel, Ree Morton, Adrian Piper, and John Wesley. Four years ago Miller, a trustee of MoMA, gave the museum, on the Foundations behalf, a group of more than 1,100 Russian avant-garde illustrated books and 100 related works. |
