Cindy Sherman for MAC Cosmetics

Cindy Sherman, the self-described "anonymous" self-portrait artist known for portraying the likes of Marilyn Monroe and Marie Antoinette with an extra emphasis on their class and gender, isputting one of her assorted talents to use in a makeup line with MACCosmetics, set to debut September 29.

Sherman takes onmultiple roles when creating her art, acting as a photographer, makeup artist, hairstylist, and costume designer to form a one-woman photo-shoot team. As the face of the Cindy Sherman for MAC campaign, she styled herself using new colors that she developed with the company to portray three very distinct characters: a circus clown with DayGlo features, an '80s upper-crust, fur coat-clad diva, and a fairy-like suburban housewife with an eerily puckish expression.

MAC has collaborated with other artists in the past, having used French street artist Fafi's signature sassy caricatures in a 2008 limited edition collection. Sherman, whose photo "Untitled#13" (1981) holds the record for the most expensive photograph sold at auction ($3.89 million at Christie's this year), will also be showing her work at an upcoming MoMA retrospective in early 2012.
