CHELSEA

Ronald Ventura's "A Thousand Islands" at Tyler Rollins gallery, 529 West 20th Street, through October 22, trfineart.com

Tyler Rollins gallery is presenting Filipino artist Ronald Ventura's second solo exhibition in the United States. "A Thousand Islands" features a new series of paintings that mingle the visual vocabulary of photorealism with graffiti, street art, and tattoo, depicting a motif of floating islands. The works on view show tiny, self-enclosed worlds.

Nicholas Krushenick at Gary Snyder gallery, 529 West 20th Street, Opening September 22, garysnyderart.com

To inaugurate their new Chelsea space, Gary Snyder gallery is showing an exhibition spanning the career of Nicholas Krushenick, a forerunner of Pop art whose brilliantly colored, crisply edged abstractions bring to mind comic books and cartoons.

"If You Like It, Take It Home" at Art Blog Art Blog, 508 West 26th Street, 11th floor, September 23-October 8, artblogartblog.com

Art Blog Art Blog is switching up its programming as the pop-up space rolls on. "if you like it, take it home," curated by Worthwhisland, offers visitors the opportunity to purchase artist multiples, shown in the context of their larger bodies of work.

Lisa Yuskavage at David Zwirner gallery, 525 West 19th Street, September 27-November 5, davidzwirner.com

Love them or love to hate them, Lisa Yuskavage's painting of lush, supine nude women are striking in their anatomical exaggeration and jewel-toned palette. The artist is now having her third solo show at David Zwirner gallery, which includes more of what made Yuskavage famous. The exhibition includes "Triptych" (Yuskavage's first three-parter), and "Outskirts," in which a pendulous nude sits atop a bent-over female form, against an apocalyptic rural backdrop.

Carsten Nicolai's "Pionier" at Pace Gallery, 545 West 22nd Street, September 21-October 22,
thepacegallery.com

Continuing its foray into the digital avant-garde, Pace presents Nicolai's "pionier 1," a white silk parachute inflated with a wind machine, and "raster gradient," a large-scale black-and-white gradient that optically expands and contracts the space of the gallery. A Berlin-based artist and musician, Nicolai is also known for his minimalist, technologically-sourced music created as Alva Noto.
