Hirst Sues Momart for £3m over Arson in 2004

Published: June 15, 2005
LONDON—British tabloid The Mirror reports today that Damien Hirst has filed a suit against art-storage company Momart, claiming £3 million in damages for art works lost in a warehouse fire last year.

Hirst joined "dozens of artists, collectors and galleries" that have brought similar suits against the company, whose Leyton warehouse is believed to have been set on fire by burglars last May, according to the article.

The blaze lasted five days and wiped out millions of pounds worth of contemporary art, including Dino and Jake Chapman's Hell (commissioned by Hirst) and Tracey Emin's Tent.
