From December 2005 through June 2006, the P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center in Queens, N.Y. is presenting Fine Print: Alternative Media at P.S.1, a series of public programsinvolving panel discussions, readings, lectures, music and performancesco-organized with innovative publications from New York and nationwide. At the first Fine Print event, San Franciscos The Believer magazine presented a favorably bizarre lineup of artists discussions. One highlight was an interview with fiberboard sculptor Matthew Ronay, conducted by writer Brandon Stosuy, which concluded with Ronays telling of a formative experience involving his mother blaming a mess he had made on the family Labrador. The Guggenheims Caitlyn Jones and critic Lori Waxman conversed about the proliferation and dubious usefulness of the short format art critic; Waxman then composed/performed rapid-fire reviews of two online artworks. A major lull was the convoluted PowerPoint safari through Modernism piloted by famous painter Eric Fischl, who observed the bodys disappearance from politically relevant, post 9/11 art. Geek-chic artist Cory Arcangel ended it all by deleting his profile on the website Friendster in an act of performance art-cum-cyber suicide. Fine Print will feature events on literature, politics, photography, sound art, stencil art, and even the legacy of Iron Chef. The next Fine Print event, to be co-produced with the publication Topic, is scheduled for Feb. 2. Other participating publications include Bidoun, Cabinet, Clear Cut Press, Esopus, Influence, The Journal of Aesthetics & Protest, Mass Appeal, n+1 and The Relay Project. All programs will be recorded for the audio-archive on WPS1.org, the museums online radio station. READ MORE ARTINFO NOTEBOOK ITEMS:
