Donors Gift Allows LACMA to Acquire Ruscha Prints

Published: January 13, 2006
LOS ANGELES (Los Angeles Times)—A donor’s gift has allowed the Los Angeles County Museum of Art to acquire 156 works by Los Angeles artist Edward Ruscha, leaving the museum close to owning a complete set of the artist’s prints, according to a report in The Los Angeles Times.

LACMA trustee Jane Nathanson and her husband provided an undisclosed amount for the purchase, allowing the museum to greatly expand its 87-piece holding of the artist’s works.

While the museum would not disclose the exact amount paid for the works, prints and drawings curator Kevin Salatino said the artist made the deal “very attractive.”

The acquisition “cements a long-standing relationship” between the artist and the museum, according to the Times. Ruscha said he was pleased to have his prints so well represented at the museum, where a major exhibition of his work was presented just a few years ago.
