N.Y. Times' Kimmelman Gets Medieval on Living Artists

Published:
While we know some people who spend a lot of time thinking about donuts and sex, Michael Kimmelman, the chief art critic of The New York Times, is the only person we know who spends a lot of time thinking about medieval treasuries.

In his review of Robert Rauschenberg: Combines, currently on view at New York's Met, Kimmelman writes, "I thought of a medieval treasuryall the rich colors and lights and intricate details."

For his critique of The Art of Richard Tuttle, showing at the Whitney Museum of American Art through Feb. 5, Kimmelman observed: "His outstanding retrospective is a cross between a kindergarten playground and a medieval treasury."
